Acting Director of Finance at a Small Not for Profit Agency
Requirement: Interim Management Services
The client is a not for profit agency that specializes in providing critical and comprehensive services in a safe and child-friendly environment. The organization works with several professional partner agencies to help better serve the local region. With an internal staff of 20, it is important to have all hands-on deck to make sure the organization can run smoothly and provide its premiere services to the community. In October, the organization’s Finance Director had a serious accident which required an extended hospital stay and a lengthy recovery period to follow.
The organization was in need of a temporary replacement for the organization’s Finance Director who was not only skilled in the areas of finance, facilities and HR, but also someone who would exemplify a service attitude towards others in the organization.
ProNexus was engaged by the client to provide Interim Finance Director Services. The client also expressed the desire to develop more defined processes and procedures to support the daily operations in the finance area. ProNexus assigned a consultant with extensive not for profit experience and a broad skill set in the areas of facilities, HR & finance that matched the needs of the client. The day-to-day duties that were performed were as follows:
- Staff Oversight
- Month End Close
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Participation in Finance Committee Meetings
- Annual Budget
- Proposal for OVS Funding
- Financial Oversight of Fundraisers
- Benefits – Rate Review with Excellus
- Other duties as assigned
ProNexus was able to close two delinquent periods and provide financial statements to the finance committee within the first two weeks of the engagement. Additionally, we quickly were able to identify several areas within the Finance & HR function where significant time-savings could be made available with some simple changes to the format of the supporting schedules.
